CONCREATECH occupies absolute primacy in the CMA calendar of events. The theme of the Conference is based on the infrastructure imperative of the Nation and the growing realisation towards ensuring sustainable growth.

The World Bank this year placed Indian economy in the fastest growing trajectory. The business opportunity is huge. The ambitious Bharatmala aims at creating 35,000 kms of roads and highways between 2017-22; more than 10 million houses are to be constructed in urban India and about 3.7 million houses have been sanctioned for rural India; redevelopment of around 900 railway stations is on the anvil and of course 99 cities have been selected under the Smart Cities Mission for development of the best in infrastructure.

As in the yesteryears when habitations emerged along the course of rivers, today roads and expressways spawn towns and cities. And these in turn bring in the multiplier effects of urbanisation, employment, digital leverage, changing demographics profile and skills development that help nurture economies.

The Government undoubtedly has to balance the aspirations of a growing population with the needs of tomorrow to ensure consistent improvements in quality of life, infrastructure and well being. It demands resource augmentation and planning at every stage. Environment responsiveness, energy efficiencies, circular economy, innovation in building materials, conservation of scarce natural resources, smart mobility solutions, digital leverage in an always on, connected world are the new ideas gaining significance in the changing context to ensure sustainable growth through optimal resource utilisation.

In fact if we were to look at our own Industry – Cement – it is changing rapidly in terms of innovation in materials and technologies, which have been prompted significantly by the environment in which it is operating and with demands of a new kind being placed on it. Affordable housing for the vast Indian populace indeed implies new research in building materials that can cater to varied weathers in different parts of India, supply chain technologies for better efficiencies and business processes that are more efficient and cost effective. In other words, the vastly changing growth requirements are defining new paradigms at the core of which lie sustainable and scalable solutions.

As India readies itself for the next level of cusp of growth, it is more than ever looking at aligning regulatory policies with its global sustainability commitments. Whatever the drivers that are prompting change – internal necessities or external commitments – it is leading to a rethink and reorientation in business, processes and, indeed, the approach to the whole ecosystem. We feel the need at this juncture for an exchange of ideas and dialogue with policy makers and businesses to comprehend where are we headed — are sustainability models to be the order of the day for business, is industry in India to take the lead in delivering on a nation’s global commitments and the emergent innovative ecosystems.

Keeping this context in view, we have designed CONCREATECH 2018 to nurture conversations around driving business integration with the developmental alternatives and the sustainability imperative.
